20090525 Breeding Canada Geese in Lasalle

20090525 80km bike ride. I know that in Ontario right along all of the great lakes, well at least in and around Toronto, that sedentary breeding Canada Geese are quite abundant and a major pest because of the large droppings they leave behind, but here in southern Quebec, they are not as abundant. Still, we see more and more of them with the passing of the years. I saw some in Boucherville and Longueuil a few years back. Now today, I saw some in Laprairie and these at the western tip of the René-Lévesque Park in Ville Lasalle. On devrais les zigouiller au plus vite!!!

20090524 Les Aliments Kim Phat, Brossard

A new asian food market opened last year in Brossard. Called Les Aliments Kim Phat, it has all sorts of unique and specialized food. Worth a visit. The Facebook pics album I created at

show some of the exotic stuff I saw, such as these Mangosteens.

20090523 Haloed Sun in Carignan

Haloed sun along the Richelieu river in Carignan. Notice the tiny black speck at 4 o'clock near the sun. It's an airplane heading straight for the sun's center. Bull's eye! Call this picture "Set the controls for the heart of the sun".

20090522 Cirque Du Soleil: Ovo

20090522 The Cirque Du Soleil's chapiteau in Montreal's Old Port. They are performing there these days their latest creation called Ovo. Saw on this day. What an amazing show it was! I managed to discreetly take a few shots and short clips inside but the no pics rule was so stricly enforced that this pic outside was the best one I took today. So it's my pic pick of the day. Anyway, keyword Cirque Soleil Ovo in YouTube and you'll see short promo clips. But amazingly, nothing from a spectator! Those guys really want to CONTROL the image of their product. I bet if I had the money for lawyers, I could win right up to the supreme court the right to take pics and vids at shows as I please! Compare spectators taking vids and pics with one just watching the show. The former looks much more like a fun and animated group of people than the latter who just look bland and lifeless and could just be replaced by cardboard images of themselves!

20090521 L'école De La Vie, Saint-Bonaventure

79km bike ride to Drummondville. I had an encounter with a stray goat and got it to go back in it's pen. I even shooed it away from oncoming cars. I guess I sort of saved it's life! The owner, Marie-France Moffatt, has a type of petting zoo there called L'école De La Vie (The School Of Life) in Saint-Bonaventure. See her website at http://ecoledelavie.edicypages.com/fr
She invited me over for a visit. More pics on my Facebook album at http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=262992&id=739480474&l=5f62ef0f2e or at http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=262992&id=739480474. This album also includes pics of a sandstorm nearby.

20090516 Sylvain Cossette au Casino de Montréal

20090516 Sylvain Cossette at the Cabaret du Casino de Montreal. Forgot my camera so I used gigi's cell phone to take a few snaps as souvenirs. Took more time to understand how to install and use the software to transfer from cell to pc than time to see the show iself! But the show was amazing visually and musically. Lots of covers from the 60's to the 80's, while focusing mainly on the 70's.

20090513 Rg du Bord de L'eau S, St-Marcel

A 78km bike ride to SGM, St-David, Yamaska, St-Aimé & St-Marcel. This bike cam vid is along the Rg du Bord-de-L'eau S, going north just to the intersection with Rt 239 in Saint-Marcel. It features a steep donwhill and uphill ride and the intersection with a quick view of the bridge over the Yamaska river.

20090512 Pont David-Laperrière vid

Last strides of a 77km bike ride, this is the bridge known as the Pont David-Laperrière, linking Pierreville in Québec on the eastern shore of St-François river to Saint-François-du-Lac on the western side. This bridge is to be replaced by a new one in the years to come. Vid made using The Clampette. A bit shaky and probably not a good idea to leave my camera on the handlebars of my bike at least for the crossing of this old bridge in future rides.

20090511 The Clampette

76km bike ride to St-Elphège, SZdC, La Visitation & BdF.
Finally got The Clampette. It's just a vise clamp adapted to be fixed to a bike handlebar for filming or taking pics while you ride. Today was a day of tests. One has to tighten it VERY MUCH so that it doesnt unvise itself. Takes some taking used to but it has potential. Could be affixed to just about any moving thing such as a car, boat, etc.I got this by the mail from the USA through an internet order. I first heard about it from a reply to a comment I made below a video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivlJSP3gIAA
Other companies, such as the one at http://www.chasecam.com, has various but more expensive mounts.
Shot made with a mirror. Cropped and horizontally flipped.

20090510 Imagine Star Trek

ONE DAY, TWO HAND SIGNS.
First at Montreal's Museum of Fine Arts, we went back to see the the free Yoko Ono exhibit Imagine. We had already seen it once but I wanted to go back again to see if any changes had been made to it from the first time we saw it a few weeks back and now. Two main differences: We could climb up the step ladder to look through the looking glass to magnify the tiny YES word overhead, and the room where we could stamp the sentence IMAGINE PEACE had been repainted so more stamping could be done there without it becoming just black.
Next, we went to see the new Star Trek movie in IMAX format. Just one word: WOW !!! Really amazing! Yes, they do cater to youth but the storyline and action are the best can be. Just the beginning of the movie is one of the best movie starts I have ever seen. Gripping. I guess in regular widescreen format it would look great also, but try to catch it in IMAX if you can. It's like being right there in the middle of the action! The seating was sold out, so buy your tickets early if you want to see this in the opening weeks. We had to forget the projection we wanted to see because IT was sold out and had to buy for the next one instead (that's what gave us the time to go back for a quick relook at the Imagine exhibit at the MMFA).
So Live Long And Prosper... in Peace !

Lobster time again. Did'nt partake, but still I love the look of the creatures. Macro with flash shot.

20090509 Dewsoaked Grass

Grass: First Cut, The Movie. Live it. Love it.

Mrs. Borg's Voice:
Turn it down!
Turn it down!
I have children
sleeping here!
Don't you boys know
any nice songs?
I'm calling the police!
I did it!
They'll be here...
shortly!
I'm not joking around
anymore!
You'll see now!
There they are...
they're coming!
Listen to that mess,
would you!
Every day this goes on
around here!
He used to
cut my grass...
He was a
very nice boy...
He used to
cut my grass...
He was a
very nice boy...
He used to
cut my grass...
He was a
very nice boy...
He used to
cut my grass...
He was a
very nice boy...

Central Scrutinizer:
This is the CENTRAL SCRUTINIZER... Yes...he used to be a nice boy...He used to cut the grass...But now his mind is totally destroyed by music. He's so crazy now he even believes that people are writing articles and reviews about his imaginary guitar notes, and so, continuing to dwindle in the twilight realm of his own secret thoughts, he not only dreams imaginary guitar notes, but, to make matters worse, dreams imaginary vocal parts to a song about the imaginary journalistic profession...

20090504 Parc Linéaire des Basses-Laurentides, km Zéro

A short 40km ride from Saint-Jérome south to Bois-des-Fillion crossing Mirabel and Blainville. The whole linear park is brand new and crosses fields, woods and suburban areas, mostly along the railway.
The starting point in Saint-Jérôme has a very nice public area with fountains and the old train station. A new train station just a few meters south is very nicely done also.

20090503 Moose Tracks in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts

Saw moose tracks in the bike path north of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts's old rail station. We did'nt go farther than this because there was still some ice and snow on the path this far north at spots and the path was soggy and in poor condition. We'll go back later this year.

Yashica 8C 8mm Home Movie Camera

My parent's old 1950's 8mm home movies camera, a Yashica 8C. Did some fairly good shooting but it was flaky at times. I've never used it myself, but it seems the autofocus was difficult to use, if it even had any. And exposure problems. Batteries were only 4 AA, simple. But I tried to hear it whirll by putting in new batts but it did nothing. For now it's just a collector's object, not of any practical use.

20090430 Horses in Saint-Aimé

20090430 73km to Saint-Marcel. On my way in Saint-Aimé, I spotted these nice horses by the Yamaska river. Took a few pics, some, such as this one, with the town of Massueville in the background. They were nice and came up to see me in a hurry. The one on the left even let me pet it and give it some fresh blades of grass from across the fence!
